All languages have their phonetics and particularities that must be adjusted in opera singing in order to combine intelligibility with vocality and projection. Articulation is a complex art in opera singing, especially in the high register, which is further removed from the spoken register. Portuguese is a language of extreme phonetic richness, yet it lacks a more systematized tradition in its approach to opera singing. All these nuances of vowels and consonants must be worked on from a technical and vocality point of view. What are the tricks for projecting semi-closed vowels? How to articulate oral and nasal diphthongs? Should the -r be rolled or not? What rounding should be done to maintain vowel intelligibility in the high and low registers?
