As part of the program of 1st edition of the Art song festival LIEDFEST from January 16th to February 2nd at Teatro Variedades, in collaboration with TNSC, acclaimed Portuguese mezzo-soprano Cátia Moreso and conductor and pianist João Paulo Santos offer us an entirely dedicated to Portuguese classical song recital, based on poetry by our Luíz Vaz de Camões, considered to be Portugal’s greatest cultural figure, one of the greatest poets of all time and the father of Portuguese language, celebrating the five hundredth anniversary of his birth.
Songs by Luís de Freitas, Joly Braga Santos, Jorge Croner de Vasconcellos, Fernando Lopes Graça, including “Endeixa do Choupal” by Ruy Coelho, for the film by Leitão de Barros, around the recurring Camonian themes of love and heartbreak, from euphoria and loving delight, to rapturous seduction or heartbreak that not even the most leafy Nature can make us forget.
