16 January to 2 February
TEATRO VARIEDADES

A fascinating journey into the world of art song with multiple crossovers!

From January 16th to February 2nd, the Teatro Variedades in the emblematic Parque Mayer, right in the city center, will be the home of the new festival to bring the richness of classical music with new formats to all audiences!

Life is made of songs. Lied means song in German. Classical song established itself in German romanticism. Great poetry, great composers, in a small format of intense emotions! The human being in intimacy, revealing their deepest secrets and confessions.

Since the beginning of the millennium, Song recitals have been disappearing from the main national and international concert halls, generating a growing need to disseminate the rich repertoire of Art Song among new generations of performers and audiences, thus creating the new LIEDFEST classical song festival, for a revitalization of the singing and piano recital format, exploring its more scenic and theatrical side, with new disciplinary crossovers, revisiting great classics, promoting new repertoire, but also Portuguese classical music and also including programming to raise awareness among the youngest.

With the artistic direction of soprano Catarina Molder and the production of Ópera do Castelo, LIEDEFEST proposes to explore the scenic side of the recital format with staged recitals and recitals that intersect with dance, for varied audiences. This 1st edition includes some of the greatest Lieder cycles of all time and also songs by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Fauré, Chausson, Ravel, Poulenc, Granados or Crumb, including Portuguese composers such as Luís de Freitas Branco, Fernando Lopes Graça and António Chagas Rosa, a marathon of young performers, celebrating Camões and great poetry.

Welcome to Liedfest, the art Song Festival!
